With less than six hours of sleep, the additional melatonin may leave you. You wouldnt want to interfere with your bodies natural melatonin production or youll be worse off than you initially were. The best time to take melatonin is when you can sleep for at least six hours. Melatonin isnt meant to be used for more than a couple days either, being a hormone. Sometimes the dose may gradually be increased to 2 to 3 tablets before bedtime, depending on how well it works and whether you have any side effects. The usual starting dose is one 2mg slow release tablet taken 30 minutes to 1 hour before bedtime. If you have to take doses this high or it keeps wearing off too quickly id reccomend taking another medication entierly. If you have a condition-related sleep problem, a specialist may prescribe melatonin longer term. Some people knock out when taking a dose as low as 3mg but that is not the case for everyone. The dosage also might not be right for you, i cant personally take 3mg and get any benefits from it, i need a lot more around 20-30mg and this isnt a healthy amount at all, i can only take these dosages once in a while. When you stsrt feeling tired this is generally the best time to fall asleep, especiallly if it is wearing off quickly in your experience. Different formulations are broken down in different amounts of time due to the size of the pill, the amount of binders in it, etc. ![]() ![]() Taking melatonin with these drugs might increase the risk of seizures.There isnt exactly a set time you should wait, even if an article or person said so. Melatonin can stimulate immune function and interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. This medication used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder can increase melatonin levels, causing unwanted excessive drowsiness. Use melatonin cautiously if you take drugs such as diazepam (Valium, Valtoco, others) and others that are affected by these enzymes.
